Mr Fothergills Pink Oyster Marvellous Mushrooms are a mushroom revered in Asian cuisine for their excellent flavour and meaty texture. Superb grilled or fried with a little seasoning and best served with light meats such as chicken, pork and seafood.
- The spawn is carried on cereal grains, which are then dried for easier handling.
- These are suitable for growing on Mr Fothergills mushroom grow boards and can also be sown into wheat straw.
- To help sterilize the straw, pour a couple of kettles of boiling water onto the straw and allow to cool off.
- Place straw into a polythene bag and sprinkle the mushroom grain onto the straw.
- Close the bag and shake well, then punch four holes around the top of the bag.
- Keep your bag at room temperature, approximately 25 Degrees Celsius in a light location.
- When the straw has turned white, place the bag somewhere cool for two days.
- Remove from the cool location, stand on a tray and cut away the top of the bag, if mushrooms develop around the sides, simply cut a hole for them to grow out of.
- Spray the straw frequently to keep it moist.
- The cold should prompt the production of mushrooms possibly within 10-20 days.
- For best results pick mushrooms when they are young, before the caps unfurl completely.
